1. PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds (PUBG)
Quite possibly the second-most famous battle royale games on iOS behind Fortnite, PUBG is a seriously great game. Similar to Fortnite, PUBG allows 100 players to enter, allowing only one to win. New features, accessories and characters are regularly added to keep the game fresh and fun. Aside from battle royale, PUBG offers a few other game modes similar to Fortnite with options like zombie survival and payload modes. There is also a 4×4 team deathmatch you can play with friends or strangers from around the world. With HD graphics and support for Xbox and Playstation controllers, PUBG is a standout game in its own right.
2. Call of Duty: Mobile
While Fortnite offers something more akin to a cartoony game experience, Call of Duty: Mobile is the opposite end of the battle royale spectrum. Hoping to provide mobile users with an experience similar to its incredibly popular console series of the same name, COD:Mobile is a home run. There is a massive amount of content to play including a 100-person battle royale. However, battle royale is just one of a handful of options. Team Deathmatch, Frontline, Search and Destroy and a whole lot more are available for 5 versus 5 multiplayer. Simply stated, there is a massive amount of gameplay options. Updates are frequent with new game modes, weapons, characters, style and more. If you want to get as close as possible to console gaming on mobile, this could very well be as good as it gets.
3. Battlelands Royale
Battlelands Royale is a slightly different take on the battle royale genre, and its popularity is increasing by the day. Unlike the rest of the genre, which adopts a mix of first- and third-person views, Battlelands adds a birds-eye view on gameplay with a top-down look. Matches only last between three and five minutes, and the player count is limited to only 32 players at once. Gameplay is simple with just “play, parachute, loot, shoot and survive,” according to the developer. There are a variety of other game modes with solo or duo battles, or you can take on the world with three of your friends in squad mode. Controls are straightforward and simple, and the variety of weapons will keep you coming back again and again. The cartoony style plays more to Fortnite fans, though it’s definitely a more playful experience.
4. Rules of Survival
Linked to be something of a PUBG clone, Rules of Survival adds a similar play style. Drop in from an airplane, find gear and work your way through battle royale matches of up to 300 people. With that many people, chaos reigns but is not necessarily a bad thing. There are two maps for play, opposed to Fortnite’s single map. Want to drive vehicles to make your way around the map quicker? Of course you can do that. Want to play in a solo or team survivor battle mode with up to 120 people from around the world? You can do that too. Throw in a variety of firearms and accessories to keep gameplay from ever getting repetitive, and it’s easy to see why Rules of Survival continues to grow in popularity. The only real “downside” to Rules of Survival is how close it does feel to PUBG, but to be fair, that is hardly a bad thing.
5. Creative Destruction
Creative Destruction is a great-looking 100-person battle royale fight to the last man. It follows the same formula: fly a vehicle into battle, land on an island, construct houses or ramps and hunt other players. The weapons are fun and enjoyable to use with enough variety to keep you coming back. Want to pair up with some friends? Play solo? You have your choice of both. Weather and timing systems make the gameplay a little more chaotic and fun, which adds another layer of complexity to the battle royale formula. The best part is that it works with iOS devices dating all the way back to the iPhone 5 and iPad Mini 2. If that doesn’t show the developers’ willingness to continue supporting the game, we are not sure what will.
6. Brawl Stars
Bringing a slightly different flavor than the typical battle royale, Brawl Stars has a unique take on the genre. This fast-paced game offers a 3 versus 3 game mode that can be completed in under three minutes. The game also offers solo and duo modes with a battle royale fight to the finish. As part of its gameplay, Brawl Ball adds a sports option to score goals before the other team. Rest assured there are no red cards here since it’s winner takes all. Heist and Bounty modes also offer 3 versus 3 squad play providing much extra value. Most important are the unique style and look of Brawl Stars. It does not feel or look like any other game on this list, and that is a good thing. As is the case with most games on this list, updates come fast and constantly add new and exciting characters, weapons and ways to achieve victory. While Fortnite is popular, it faces strong competition in this space, which is a good thing for the player.
