Pokemon Go is all over the Internet, especially the social media platforms, and it is almost impossible for one to browse the Web without seeing at least one post on Pokemon Go. It might be a huge breakthrough for many Pokemon fans, but it can be an annoyance for many people who think Pokemon is a childish game that some adults drool over. If you hate seeing Pokemon Go everywhere or are trying to fight the urge just like me, then in this article we will tell you how you can completely get rid of Pokemon Go from your web activity.
How to Block Pokemon Go
Some smart developers have created an open-source Pokemon Go filtering extension for Chrome that will filter all the content containing Pokemon Go. The name of the extension is PokeGone, and its tagline is really catchy – “Gotta block ’em all.” Although the extension is only available for Chrome, with a little trick you can use Chrome extensions in Firefox and Opera as well. I am actually using this extension in Opera to block Pokemon Go.
Using PokeGone
Install the extension in your browser and move to its options from the extensions button. There are three types of filters that you can adjust according to your wishes: Mild, Aggressive and Vindictive.
Mild: In this mode PokeGone will only remove paragraphs and phrases containing the word Pokemon Go. It does makes the Web a little confusing, as you may see posts half completed, but it is perfect for removing Pokemon Go without removing all the content. However, I did found it missed Pokemon Go in some areas of the Web like post titles. Aggressive: This is the default option, and it will remove complete sections where Pokemon Go is mentioned. This is a somewhat aggressive option (as the name suggests) that won’t even leave a trace of Pokemon Go. However, it may also remove required content in a section that also contains Pokemon Go. For people tired of Pokemon Go all over their Social media networks, this is the best option. Vindictive: This is a somewhat harsh option, and I don’t recommend you use this. It will remove all the content from the page that even has a hint of Pokemon Go. For example, if there is a recommendation of an article about Pokemon Go on a website, the whole content of the website will be removed. I believe this option isn’t practical, but you can use it if you want to take some kind of revenge out on Pokemon Go. For me it took almost a second for each of the options to remove the Pokemon Go content from a web page, but you may still get a glimpse of Pokemon Go. The extension also shows how many pages have been filtered and how many times the words Pokemon Go have been prevented from showing, titled “Pokemons Caught.”
