PySolFC

Despite the odd-looking name, PySolFC is among the Windows 10 solitaire apps. Unlike other options on this list, it’s open source. While it’s not available in the Microsoft Store, it is free to download. It’s also available for Linux and Mac. Personally, it’s my favorite and has been for years. If you don’t mind the older look to the interface, you can’t really ask for more. It’s ad-free and includes hundreds of games. This includes classic solitaire variants Mahjong, FreeCell, and more. You can save in-progress games, view stats, and customize your cards and backgrounds a little.

Microsoft Solitaire Collection

The Windows solitaire app got a major upgrade in Windows 8.1. While many would argue that Microsoft made it worse (myself included), it’s hard to deny that it has many more features than the previous solitaire app. The main issues are the growing number of ads and that you have to pay a monthly subscription fee to remove them. However, you get to play five different solitaire games. This includes Klondike, Spider, FreeCell, TriPeaks, and Pyramid. If you don’t mind 30-second ads between each hand, the free version actually works really well. Plus, you can customize themes, which includes the ability to add your own images. There are also daily challenges. It’s included with Windows 10 already. Of course, if you’re like me and a Windows update removed it, you’ll need to pick it up again from the Microsoft Store.

Simple Solitaire

It’s not fancy, but Simple Solitaire is easily one of the best simple Windows 10 solitaire apps available. If you just want to play basic solitaire without any extras, you’ll love this app. It loads faster than any other app on this list. It looks and feels more like the classic free solitaire that came with Windows before Microsoft Solitaire Collection. Plus, you can customize your theme and cards. The only con is the banner ad at the bottom of the window. However, it’s easy to ignore and not nearly as intrusive as most ads.

Spider Solitaire Collection

If you prefer Spider Solitaire, Spider Solitaire Collection is one of the most popular Windows 10 solitaire apps. It features four versions of the popular game. Customize colors, backgrounds, and cards. There are occasional ads but nothing too intrusive. In-app purchases are available to go ad-free, but that’s sadly become the norm for most game apps, even on Windows 10. The only con is you won’t find the classic Klondike version. If you prefer Klondike solitaire, the same developer also created Klondike Solitaire Collection. It has four variations of the game and looks almost identical to the Spider Solitaire game.

SolSuite

SolSuite is the only completely premium app on this list. However, with the exception of PySolFC, all the other apps are ad-supported and offer in-app purchases. With SolSuite, you pay a one-time fee for full access and no ads. The company has been around since 1998 and has become a trusted Windows solitaire alternative. It offers an impressive 742 solitaire varieties. There’s even a special set of games just for children. Customize your game with various themes, card sizes, and hundreds of card backs options. A free trial is available, but after that, the game costs $19.95. However, at the time of writing, the site was offering a half-off promotional offer.
